It's also a nice feeling to be able to reach into your shooting box and pull out the exact piece of equipment that's needed to help some other guy on the shooting line fix something. :)

"Damn mister! If you didn't have that I'd a been up the creek without a paddle." :)

This is what I use.

Cynthialee has my unit beat!

I have a large fishing box that would be ideal in size, but I LOVE wood.

In the box, when it sits at home, all my supplies are consolidated in one place.

I have leather pouches for either flintlock or percussion tools.

When I leave for the range, I remove the pouch for the style of rifle that is left home.

Also in the box are tools for dry ball removal, patch retrieval, cleaning patches, toothpicks. A little bottle of Moose Milk remains in the box.

Often, there are 45 cal, 50 cal and 54 cal ball bags.

The flintlock pouch has spare flints and a flint hammer.
The percussion bag has a nipple wrench.

You will see a pistol ramrod in a photo. If I don't take a pistol, that is left at home.

So, when I go off to the range, only the supplies for the the type and caliber of firearm are taken and all else stays home.

One thing that I might add to what I said earlier is that I keep a list of things that I want to take with me when I go to shoot. It is divided into two lists. One list is the basics such as the correct size balls, patches, caps, etc. That is what I put into the small ammo can that I carry to the bench. The other list is the "nice to have" extras that I want to have along but not in my range box at the bench. This list consists of the tools that I want to have along, my target stapler, extra balls, powder, patches, lube, bore cleaner for swabbing out my bore before heading home, snacks, water, extra jacket (for cool weather) my disposable rain poncho, a hat and such stuff as that. All of that stuff stays in the trunk of my car until and unless it is needed. At the bench, I go light carrying only those things that I might carry in my possibles bag if I was doing a woods walk or hunting. Don't forget that you can keep a few small extras in your pockets. That will help keep your bag, box or whatever that you carry to the bench to a minimum.

I have a beautiful large range box that has drawers and compartments in it. It opens so that the front folds down to provide a work surface. It is a real dandy and I am proud of it. I used to carry it to the bench and it always got rave reviews. But I kept adding things to it until I could hardly pick it up. That is the box that stays in the trunk of my car. Now only my small ammo can with the basics goes to the bench with me.

I have another range box but it is rather large. I don't use it for BP though. If I filled it with lead projectiles it would be way to heavy. The top part is the size of a large tackle box and detaches when needed. The bottom has wheels and a handle similar to an med airline bag. I have targets and a spotting scope in it. I usually only take the top part which has a few tools, assorted items I might need and smaller targets and things to attach targets.

A fishing tackle box is a great idea! When it's opened the, trays fold out and give one handed access to all those small things one might need, organized and separated to boot by the little compartments. Lead, powder, patching, oil, tools in the bottom...

I'll see if I can find a nice Plano or Flambeau box with 2 or 3 fold out trays. I think I'll go for green or black though, pink is a bit to bright for my taste.

Awesome!

I've used a Plano tackle box for years. It works great and the fold out trays seem to keep my various accouterments from getting mixed up.

The lower area is large enough to hold things like short starters, a staple gun to hang targets, packages of patches and some patch lube.

I like the green/gray box I have but the dark gray, black and dark blue will look just as good.

If your doing your shooting around any large body of water, I don't recommend using the pink, pink and baby blue, or the brilliant pink and blue "Mermaid" box with the mermaid decal on the lid.

The laughter coming from the fish in the pond can be quite annoying and it will ruin your ability to concentrate on taking a careful aim. :rotf:

Gentlemen,
I never wear or carry pink. With or on me, that color is "salmon." :)
So carry your salmon tackle box or wear your salmon shirt without embarrassment. After all, if you are embarrassed, your face will turn a shade of salmon.
