I just got a new box of round balls that are covered with white oxidation, I'm assuming. This may sound stupid but, will this hurt their flight any?

I had some boxes like that, never noticed any problem at all...I didn't like that look though so the next time a got a box like that, I poured them out on an old towel, sprayed them down with WD40, and took part of the towel and rubbed them all around for a few seconds...looked like new.

Roundball: Strange thing I did the same thing with the same results. Then I stored them with a lubed patch and they stayed looking like new until I used them.

According to the publication The Art of Buliding the Pennsylvania Longrifle
you and RB have done exactly what they say to do;

" The only way to keep the shiney lead surface on them is to lightly coat them with oil-as many competition shooters do. Otherwise the lead will oxidize to a dull gray. They are still perfect projectiles (most roundballs look this way when purchased)."

If they shine too much the game will spook when you shoot at em. :bull:

i think there going to get spooked anyway when ya shoot them :crackup:......................bob

Nope! The whole camo arrow thing is a scam by the arrow makers, to make you buy more arrows! ::You ever tried to find one of those camo arrows in the field?! :shocking:I hunt with bright colored arrows and shiny barreled flintlocks, and the game don't seem to care! :crackup:Next thing ya know, they'll be selling camo roundballs! :: :thumbsup:

I guess you can only git them old balls in some parts of the country, ours seem to sell to fast to oxidize. ::

No, no, no. they are for shooting in the winter over snow. Then the deer think they are just a VERY fast moving snowflake. :crackup:

Dagnabbit...three years plus of nice grey patina on my Bess, and now I got to shine it up so I can find it in the field after I shoot it.

:curse: :haha: :redface: :cry: :blah:

The main trouble with the oxidation is that people might start calling you "White Balls". That's why it's important to clean them with the WD40.

Rat

And being called "White Balls" is better than being called "Silver Balls" HOW? :: Boy Rat, ya need some more of that Caffine don't ya? :crackup:

I spray my balls with PAM :what:.. (I mean RB's)

The meat doesn't stick to em an ya get better penetration :rolleyes: :winking: :results:

See what I mean Barney. I rest my case!

Nuts Nuts Nuts!! :crackup: :crackup: :crackup:
