I was curious about what the muzzleloading crowd would think of this program, so I had to peruse the comments.
I have some knowledge of the country it was filmed in so I had to overlook the sligt of hand in film editing the geography. Other than that I viewed the show for entertainment only and general correctness of accoutrements. The mountaineers seemed to toe the line in that regard, although I have to wonder if the game wardens were watching that goofy display of flock shooting at ducks out of season. Hell yes he missed them, wouldn't you if Ranger Rick was lurking in the pines?
The trail ride appeared to start at Turpin Meadows, a major trailhead into the Two Ocean Divide and Thorougfare Country. That is northeast AWAY from Pierre's Hole. Looks like they did film at the Two Ocean Divide, but then essentially turned back around and headed west along the Pacific Creek to the Snake River. Oh yeah, they had to cross the highway between Jackson Lake Lodge and Flagg Ranch, or there abouts. The Snake River crossing was pure Hollywood, which is quite alright, but it doesn't take a even a Pilgrim to see that shallower riffles were present to guide a pack string. It wasn't necessary to plunge into the trout pool. The ride finished with a climb up and over Conant Pass with the view of Pierre'Hole, aka Driggs, Idaho in the distance.
It was a pretty good piece of editing for genral Nat Geo viewing. I don't know the mountaineers but at least the two AMM hivernauts have been in the back country before, and my guess is that they have both spent theri fair share of time along the Two Ocean Divide and Hawk's Rest R.S on the upper Yellowstone.
It is indeed a spectacular spot and THE most remote point in the lower 48.
Too bad if the greenhorn has finally made his right of passage and the show doesn't continue with the Rocky Mountain College of our favorit plump Pilgrim.
