I know finding used parts for old muzzleloaders is really difficult. While everyone deserves to make a fair profit, It seems though that some who sell these hard-to find-parts up the price quite a bit. A screw could cost $25 plus shipping. Anyway, I just saw on eBay a lock and screw for a .45 TC Seneca listed at $295.00. Heck, you can get a Traditions .50 Springfield Hawken new for $329.00. Just sayin'.

Yep, but has it sold?

The price you pay when you live in a 'gotta have it now' instant gratification society. Nobody has the sense or patience to wait til the seller puts a more reasonable price on his product. Leads to kinda what ya call yer 'vicious cycle' economy. Long as chumps will pay the gougers will gouge. And the rest of us suffer right along with the fools because then we pay or do without. P.T. Barnum knew whereof he spoke.

There’s a feller on gunbroker sellin’ 10 cent screws that’ll work for adjjstment screws for TC triggers. He only wants 10 bucks plus shipping for them. But hey, they’re stainless! 🤪🙄

Take a look at TC or green Mt. barrels. A TC .50, 5/16" Hawken barrel just sold for $390.00 total on evilbay. Not a new barrel or a 1/66 twist barrel,a standard 1/48 twist, used barrel. Here is the barrels description,Blue very good on outside of barrel, light pitting inside bore. Yikes.Talk about inflation, people are their worst enemy's and we pay for their impatience!

Hmmm. I have talked about selling some of my MLs while prices are high. My wife says "No, you enjoy seeing them, handling them, and occasionally shooting them and so do I. Don't sell them." I wanted to have more savings for her when I die but she is revolted by that [I'm a bit older]. I guess I will keep most and sell only the ones I really do not want. I love that gal! Polecat

for years i bought parts off ebay and assembled two or three rifles each winter , with them costing me about 175.00 . it was cheap entertainment while i watched it snow.
then someone wised up and started pricing his "Rare TC Hawken " parts for the cost of a new gun. now a bare cracked stock sells for 250.00.
just as cheap now to buy parts and pieces from TOTW and buy a plank.

Don't feed the trolls. If you pay a gouger's price it only encourages them to do it again, and greed breeds more greed. Prices will continue to rise.
Pay what you consider a reasonable price or walk away.

That's absolutely my philosophy. Unfortunately, as I mentioned, we live in an instant gratification society. Unless & until people do as we've suggested and walk away I fear it won't change any time soon.

just had a thought! (dangerous) I know!

are we missing something? is the price of stuff we are griping about just relative?
is it going to show up in higher value in complete guns?
i bought Home depot stock at $58/per . I thought that was outrageous! today i wish i had bought a thousand shares!

Supply and demand, if someone needs it they will pay what the market bears. With a limited supply of obsolete parts on the market the price rises be it car, motorcycle, gun or airplane parts. I've known cases of airplanes sitting on the ground until one like it has a mishap (crash) or is scrapped to get a needed part no longer in production. Sometimes you have to pay to play even if you don't like it 😢

Of course! If the need dictates, you have to pay the piper. But it seems for many that "common sense" isn't so common any more. People will pay the piper even when it's not important or necessary. That's where I draw the line. Big difference between need and want in my book.

Yup, I agree, need is need and want is want.
