I beat him to it a couple of years ago. It works, but not well. Too much wobble in mine.

One could bolt that sucker down to a piece of 2x10. Then cut a channel in a piece of 2x4 or 4x4, line it with leather or felt, and it just might work pretty good.

Laugh all you want, but it works. Rest is velcroed to the jack so it is removable at any time. No wobble on mine

Those were standard Australian rests for years, often bolted to a brake disc for stability, still got one in the shed and there’s one at the range for a standby.

brake disc! Great idea, I have one laying around and will give it a try.

I had my camera out, so I decided to add my experience. Years ago, when living in western North Carolina, I had no money for a shooting rest, so I used an old scissor type lab jack mounted on a wooden board. Folks laughed until they saw how easy it was to adjust the elevation and how stable it was... when I got a few bucks, I "upgraded" to the cheap rest on the right side of the photograph, as I was also using the lab jack in my workshop for other purposes ( my heavy duty scissors jack always stayed in the back of my truck)
