I don't think it's about the lead to begin with. They just want to control the ammo. I had a guy tell me the other day that the goverment is paying ammo makers not to make ammo. Who knows what they are up to. All I know is there is always an underlying issue to everything that the goverment does.

I don't feel very good today so maybe I am just being more negative than I usually am. A guy can't even buy a decent new production muzzleloader today without the QLA barrel, plastic stocks, removable breech plugs and all the sinline manure. I don't really feel very good and thinking about this bs is only making it worse.

this is kind of off subject but same, I was at my local gun shop guy came in looking for no4 steel to pheasant hunt around rend lake Ill. I asked well iguess they have made all state fields steel now, he told me that the state was scraping the surface dirt at the trap range to get rid of ALL the lead shot. tax dollars hard at work.

Hi Guys,
Way up here in Canada ( The Great White North)
It is illegal to hunt any game with hard ball ammo in a rifle.
Military hard ball, may only be used for target & practice.
That being the case how can we use a solid copper, zinc, tin or anything else, for hunting purpose.
Are US game laws any different?

The next thing. You will have to have a filter on your muzzle loader barrel. The smoke from your rifle will be adding to the global warming problem. :rotf:

I guess thay will make me stop eating beans?

I asked an uncle of mine who's a geologist -- said in the amounts that I'm using lead and the environments I'm using it in... it doesn't matter, happy shooting.

He hit the nail on the head. Even if it is a heavily used shooting range. Where does lead come from anyway?

The only thing bad is that ducks scavenge for things that lay on the bottom and can ingest some lead.

I've been trying to find if there are any historical references to iron balls being used in shoulder fired MLs. Maybe someone knows a source or has experience using them.
I don't have the sources at hand, but I have seen references to iron balls being provided for 16th century muskets (smoothbores of large caliber), and possibly into the 17th century. This included discussions about the importance of purity of the iron (wrong impurities caused shattering on impact) and of forging techniques. My guess is that iron gave better penetration against the fairly heavy plate armor still being worn in the period.

Joel

We can not hunt with ball eather. Ammo but be expanding for hunting, so if the all copper, etc is expanding then it is OK.
