Howdy all,
I picked this smoothbore up from a forum member and just got around to shooting it in.
It is a trade/canoe gun with a 28" barrel in 58 cal.
It has a very fast Chambers siler lock, I jug choked it to Modified, put on a rear site and swivel sling and sling button.
The roundball results are at 50 yrds.
The shot results are at 30 and 40 yrds.
And did I mention I am selling it so I can get a "Roy" gun.
I will be posting it on the classifides.

What would you like to know?
It has a Numric Arms barrel made for Savage(very nice)
It's light and short for woods trampin, canoeing etc..
Truck huntin' :haha:
just don't squeeze that trigger inside your truck.
:haha:

Besides being among the left sided elite :haha: my other handicap is being 6'5" hence I find the butt stock of most tradeguns a tad short. What would be the LOP on that 'lil beauty?

Greenmtnboy,
If this gun is still available I'll take it. I sent you a message from the classifieds section. Thanks.

Nice gun, the stock has more drop than my Enfield.

Wish my Enfield had that drop. I tried bending it after heating and only got 1/8" more drop, needs another 3/8".

Anyway good shooting :hatsoff:

Brits.

Using my calipers and your picture, and going by the given dimension of the 28" barrel the length of pull comes much closer to 14 inches.

It's a nice looking gun but doesn't resemble any kind of "trade gun" that I've ever seen. :shake: With an approx. 44" over all length it doesn't really fit into the canoe gun catagory (short enough to load while sitting down) either.

Germanic lock, iron BP and with that trigger guard combined with the rear sight it would better be described as a smooth rifle. Or..? .. smooth rifles as we think of them usually had, but not always, an octagon barrel. But it's certainly not a trade gun or canoe gun.

Shot patterns look great. I'd think with the rear sight, or in spite of it, that you could get better groups with a round ball though.

There is no standard lenght recorded for "canoe guns" because they didn't exist historically.

Trade guns have very specific characteristics that have been well-documented by scholars.

Isn't that what I said.
Now when I was a boy my grandfather who was born in 1900 told me the doublebarrel muzzleloading shot gun my great grandfather used on his trapline and deer hunting via canoe was called a "canoe gun" by my great grandfather who was born in 1870. That gun was given to him by my Great Great Grandfather who used it the same way, and also called it a canoe gun.
My great great grandfather was born 1845.
weird ain't it, no historical reference ever found to a canoe gun but the one I got hanging in my gun cabnet has been called a canoe gun for 150 yrs.
:hmm:
Maby it was so obvious they diden't need to write it down.
The shot gun 24 guage double percession 28 inch barrels.
I even got a black and white of my great grandfather, shotgun slung over his back in a Mansfield canvas canoe loaded with a nice white tail buck.
:hatsoff:
