Put me down for the sling list. It's tuff enough to cross fences with both hands free without having to find a spot to rest your weapon on the other side then climb over then pick it back up.

You cross fences with the rifle/shotgun slung on your back? :shocked2:

What are they teaching in Hunters Safety Class these days?

You lay the firearm under the fence several feet away and retrieve it once across.

How do those that walk in a woods thats has heavy downfall get around beats me.
Very slowly and with the rifle at the ready for when the buck jumps out of that heavy downfall or you catch the movement of his rack as he turns his head.

How do you walk through this with a slung rifle?

To each his own.

Curious? How do you walk through that with or without a rifle? I find a route AROUND such tangles, and when I do have to " find a hole" to climb over and under something, the gun comes off my shoulder, and preceeds me through the "hole". Then its re-slung over my shoulder, with my right hand holding the forestock. That allows me to lift the muzzle up to clear low obstructions.

I don't cross creeks, fences, or any other obstruction, much less climb in and out of treestands with any gun slung over my shoulder. If I have to cross a ditch, or creek alone, The gun is in both hands, unloaded, and I unlock my knees to maintain maximum balance while I feel with my forward foot for a stable platform to transfer my weight to. This is referred to as a " Fox Walk".

If you ever watch the men and women who run the floating log contests, their knees are always bent, and they seem to glide over those logs. That is a fast "Fox Walk".

Ever hear of keep it empty till you get where your going?? Sorry But I am not goin to lay my weapon down on the muddy or dirty ground, you can if you want to. I am not one to wonder around the woods with a loaded gun. I do a bit of recon in what ever area I am goin hunting in. It helps to have your own hunting preserve. I get to where I am going load up my weapon then hunker down. Why wonder around the woods with a loaded weapon? All your dooing is scaring the animals. Every year I get what I came for. Not a trophy (rack) hunter like alot of people I am out there for food. Only thing I use the antlers for if it has them is for buttons, or trade goods. You won't find a single piece of taxidermy in my house. I don't need it to brag. My freezer speaks for me.
