Buy a set of slixxshots and shoot any cap you want. 40 bix is worth it in my opinion. But then I buy replacement nipples before the gun ever gets shipped so it's a no brainer.

I do the same.

Don't own a Ruger, but all my other cap guns get slix shots or treso nipples. No point in messing with the factory ones when I can't buy caps to fit them. Sucks to spend the extra money, but it's been the only option for a long time.

I have treso on one of my roa and slixx on the other. I wanted to try both and then got another roa. Both work good. On pocket guns i found , depending on which way the slixx vents are facing, sometimes they split the cap and it catches the frame on rotation. In those cases I prefer treso. On full size guns, they are capable of chewing up the fragments.

The stock nipples on a Ruger old army are top quality. I would never arbitrarily change them. I have shot thousands of rounds out of my two old armies, with the original nipples. I have no issues with caps fitting or ignition. I literally get nearly 100% ignition. I believe the most common causes of ignition failure are caps not fully seated and failing to pick the nipples, every cylinder.

For the last 5 or six years changing nipples right off the bat hasn't been arbitrary. Caps that fit most stock nipples just are not available. Dunno about Ruger though, maybe they're larger than the Italian stuff.

On both of my rugers, one or more of the nipples was undersized. 4 fit great and 2 the caps are loose. Also the ruger nipples are soft. Many have damage where the socket fits. I remove my nipples everytime I shoot. I found the slixx to be the strongest in that regard.
