Rookie Woodsrunner build

Never having handled a flintlock, nor even knowing what a “lock” was, I decided to try a kit, rather than buy one retail. After much research and lacking confidence in building one from parts, I purchased a Woodsrunner in the white from Jim Kibler. It was meant to be a fall project, but I could not wait.

Having watched the Kibler videos, taken this one apart and reassembled it, and now knowing what tools would be required, I believe my next one will not be bought in the white.

The members of the Muzzleloading Forum have been a tremendous help. I do not think that a day goes by that I do not read your posts that ooze so much intelligence and help. Thanks!

Thanks, Jim. I just reached out to Bree to thank her for her assistance and to communicate my thanks to you for crafting an excellent kit and your effort to educate about kit building with your videos.

I was just looking for something to do and came across your videos (I had to look up what a lock was). With your expertise translated to video, I had the confidence that I could do a halfway decent job. Your videos resulted in a purchase.

But I do have a complaint! Your video on carving makes it look way too easy! LOL! I could only muster up the courage to put the lines and the thumb impression on the patch box cover, and even that effort produced a lot of anxiety!

I purchased and used the Jax Brown from the Kibler site.

Thanks! Shooting is my next endeavor. Fortunately, I have a friend who hunts with Black Powder here in Tennessee, so will have a good instructor.

i am finishing up my second kibler SMR, i hear a lot of people say things like, they just go right together, and true most of it is easy and fit really good. but there are still things you have to be somewhat skilled to do, there is some shaping of parts and fitting and thinking that goes into it if you want it right. i am a retired professional transmission rebuilder of 45 years. to me putting a valve body on any transmission is child's play, but for the average person or even an engine mechanic it would be a nightmare! i could make it look easy, but there is plenty of skill and knowhow that goes into it, same as putting a kibler together,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Nice looking you did a fine job!!! Never mind him he is bitter and not having a good day unless he can degrade or bash somebody. It’s unfortunate because he does amazing work and is a wealth of information.
