Alright guys.

Since I am coming back to this wonderful hobby after not even firing a BP rifle in 20 years. I am in need of some assistance.

I need a list of things I will need to pursue this hobby. I have the rifle. Fox River .50 Perc Cap. Just need the goodies.

What I need to know is what accessories I need to get. Which ones are quality and which ones I should stay away from.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Black powder and caps are not easy to find these days.
Check your local gun shops and only reputable online vendors, like Graf&sons, Buffalo Arms to name a few.
Welcome back.

Will do. Appreciate it!
I've got one of those rifles. It's deadly accurate with the 360gr. Lee Minnie but I can't get it to shoot a ball for nothin lol 80-100grs ffg under the Minnie and it will put them in a half inch at 50 yards though. Just about hurts me more than the deer lol those rifles are tiny.

Lol yea. Me.being 6'2" and bulky.... it definitely is a little rifle to me. It will hold me over until I can upgrade to a proper Kentucky or Hawkens.

Im going to try the AAA battery and flashlight trick tonight to see if its even worth cleaning.

New gun, or new to you gun? If it’s a used gun and you haven’t shot it, you should confirm it’s not loaded. And whether a new or used gun, clean it before shooting it the first time. It may look clean, but there very well could be something like oil in the breech area that you won’t see with the AAA battery ‘trick’.

Oh its mine from when I was a teen. Its just been that long since it was properly cleaned. Afraid to see what the bore looks like lol.
If it reassures you mine was treated quite poorly at some point and the bore is pretty rough...... Shoots what it shoots great but it is a pain to clean. Real black helps though. I don't care what anyone says pyrodex is way more corrosive than real black. Got to clean that for 3-4 days to get it to not rust with pyro but goex is a one and done with the same treatment.... Just remember a really good rust preventative is almost more important than a squeaky clean gun. I use barricade and haven't had any issues since I started using it.

Welcome home !

Fox River Outfitters was the T/C Custom Shop, so anything for a .50 cal T/C Hawken should do ya just fine.

Here's the recommended loads, from the horse's mouth:

What’s the AAA battery trick?

Wanna say droppin the battery down the barrel and hittin it with a flashlight and it illuminates the barrel or somrthing like that.

Tried it earlier. Seemed to work. The barret needs a patch or 500 but the rifling looks good so theres hope!
Great idea. I think I’ll try it for fun sometime.

I have seen caps in stock at bass pro pretty consistently. Much more expensive than they used to be however.

Welcome back! Your in the right forum for sure! I’d use some WD-40 and purple scotch brite and finish it up with 0000 steel wool to dress up your bore.. wrap the scotch brite around your ram rod jag, spray WD down bore then follow it up with the steel wool. Do it until it’s smooth. A muzzle protector would be advisable as well. Then clean the bore just like normal, oil it and put it up until range day.
