the amount of guns and other points of historical interest in Newfoundland is amazing.
150 yards down the hill from my house in Torbay, NL is a point called "the Battery". nothing gets named "the Battery" unless there had actually been a battery of guns there in the past. i`m told that where my house is built now, that there had at one time, stood stables for the Royal artillery`s horses. there are at least two cannon in this town in people`s yards that were found in the area.
St John`s alone has so many historic sites, and it should, being the oldest city in N America. the French and British fought over control of much of the island, there is a French fort at Placentia, NL that was destroyed by the brits. i have not been there, but there are some French guns to be seen there.
