Now that I have had to pass on the Hatfield .50cal, I have a friend that has a Ruger Old Army he is thinking of selling.
He has never shot it, and I cannot hold it in my hands to determine if it has ever been shot due to him being in Oklahoma and me in Wisconsin, but he says it has not.

Question is, what would be a fair price to offer..... ???

Now keep in mind, I am his internet confessional, stress reliever, "partner in crime" (through the internet), and general therapist in life. Heheh.

I have done my research on this one also, and it seems they "sell" between $400 and $600 without box and documents.

I too do not like these "what is it worth" questions, but rely on you guys for most of my information now, as quite a few of you have purchased or own what I hope to soon.

I do have 3 Pietta handguns already, so I really do not need another, but he is "in need" shall we say?
Guess I am in the mood to not build anymore, but want a huge "collection" my kids can fight over..... Heheh

Maybe you’d offer him the money he needs (within reason) with the intent that when he’s in a better position he can buy it back?

I’ve seen how prices have at times been over $1000. I’d never pay that much. And I wouldn’t accept that much for mine either. As good of a gun as it is I’d feel $600 was a bit more than I’d want to pay, and there is a part of me that would like another one or two. Certainly worth $500, especially never been fired.

Blued or stainless, does it come with the proper tool to remove the nipples, what is the length of the barrel. Seems like a fair price .

Good stuff here again everyone!
I am emailing back and fourth with him as I type this.
Thinking about $500 or so to help him out, but he owes me at least that much for all the "mental anguish" he is inflicting on me!
Heheh, just kidding, and I want to be as honest with him as I can.

Much appreciated, and I just proposed $400 to him.
Now, let's see what he has to say!

Crap, I hope he doesn't come here "a'lurkin" to see what I have said about him..... Heheh… aww heck, I hope he does!

Why would you spend $400 for what you can get a:
New Army target for $320
Or
A New Army for $270
Or
An Old Army for $350
New.
Just askin.

Heheh, I just got it for $400, and to answer the questions...…
I have that, I have 3 Pietta's, and, he is a friend, and I take care of my friends when I can, as I can! ;)
I am just that kinda guy?

Good enough. Just wondering.

$500 sounds tops to me for a blued model. They are scarce is why I say $500 and not $400.

Agreed, and I will offer him more if he wants it....

Just got a reply as I was typing this, and he only wants what I offered, and he is not a bp guy by any stretch, and does not wish to buy it back!
Good guy, and you all would like him!

Not any better than my Remington New Army Target. Puts rounds on half dollar at 25 feet and that's with my old eyes.

The steel is certainly better as are the springs, if nothing else. It also doesn’t come with grossly undersized chambers. The fit may not be perfect but it was pretty close, and much better than my Pietta. Had you stated the Shooter’s Model I would have said maybe we were closer to apples to apples.

And then there’s the warranty and customer service.

Ok, ok, there are those that feel a ruger is cadillac. All I know is I've had my Rem target, plus others for a long time and never had any problems nor needed customer service. But then one can spend twice as much and 5 years later just have a lump of metal and some not. There is a lot to be said about proper use and maintenance. Given that I would never spend that kind of bucks on a black powder only rated gun. But that's me.
