The wax would not be a problem on the outside of the firearm but I agree that it would be better left outside and not be used in the bore as a patch or bullet lube. I am of the opinion that if a person wants to use motor oil on the outside of their gun, in the lock, or even in the bore as a rust preventive (only) it would do no harm. I admit that I use a petroleum product, 3 in 1, etc., to protect my bore but I thoroughly wipe all traces of it out of the bore before shooting my gun. But, in the bore as a patch or bullet lube it can cause an undesirable mess. However, I know that there are folks who will say that they use petroleum based products in their bore as bullet or patch lubes and never have a problem. Well, that's kind of like the guy who kissed the pig....to each his own. :haha:
