Hello,

Has anyone used the lubricants and if so what do you think of them?

They also make a product called Black Off for cleaning black powder weapons. I was wondeing if anyone has used that and if so would it make a good patch lube/cleaner for the range?

Mike

I use black off. I use it for between shot string cleaning on the range. I also soak the bore with it before I use a bore brush and flush with soapy water. It's a good solvent for BP. I buy mine when it goes on clearance after the season for a buck a bottle.

Dawg,

Where do you get it for a buck a bottle?

Mike

Its not worth it. I tried to get a duck into a bottle and was covered with beak bites and feathers, Next time I am going to take the easy way out and buy a commercial solovent.

I use this stuff on my modern guns. It seems to work as well as any other gun oil.

I bought a bottle and like it,works pretty good cleaning up the rifle

The Black Off Solvent contains Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether and it has evaporative properties.
For the most part it's effective on Pyrodex, and some WalMarts sell it.

The only Rusty Duck I have tried was the aerosol gun oil protector. It just so happens the can rusted thru from the outside, so I trashed it. Seemed ironic, I have barrels here in my basement sitting some times for 4-5 years & not rusting at all, nothing else in here rusts, but the rust inhibitor can rusts thru & leaks.... duh.........
:hmm:  y

I won some Black Off at a shoot a while back. It is about the only BP solvent I have seen that works pretty much as advertised. It works as well as plain soap and water. I take it along when I go to a shoot to clean up the rifle before coming home.

I also soak the nipples in it when I clean my percussion gun. A quick swipe with a patch and a pipe cleaner into the hole and the nipple is squeeky clean.

Thanks all for the replies. A friend gave me some of their products. I'll also check my local Wally World.

Years ago there was a comparison test in Muzzle Blasts that rated rusty duck superior as a cleaner and said it worked particularly well when put down an ostensibly clean bore and let sit for a bit. I got a jug, have a tiny bit left (must have been ten years ago) and it still seems to work pretty well. Good smoke, ron in FL

I bought some of the Black Off product. I was not impressed and rate it below Windex even. I decided to use it up using it between shots when target shooting. At 25 yards the third shot missed the paper at 25 yards off a bench. Finally patched the gun out completely clean and ran a BB patch as lube. Gun went right back to dead on. I am using it up, but won't buy anymore.
