2thdoc,,, I also have a .45 caliber, 42 inch 13/16th GMB, Dickert flintlock. I plink with 45 grains 3fg Goex... Seriously target shoot with 50, 55, 60, and 65 grains of 3fg... I haven't felt the rifle loads unsafe at all... I cut my dovetails for underlugs, rear and front sight's at .080 depth... On a GMB .45 x 13/16 you should have .165 from the outside flat to the bottom of the bore groove... I will add this; when I build another I plan on going only .065 deep with the dovetails... The less metal taken away is always preferable... :)

I gotta agree with Stumpkiller.
Hydrogen Peroxide is just water with extra oxygen molecules attached to the water molecule. Iron + oxygen equals RUST.

I also don't know where this Hydrogen Peroxide manure came from but it surely wasn't from anyone who passed High School Chemistry class.
I suppose it was added by someone who was fascinated with all of the little bubbles. He probably thought "Boy O Boy! Those little bubbles will get down in there and really clean stuff out! It will be squeeky clean!!!!!"

Yes, I know many of you use this stuff and it is the neatest thing sence sliced bread but I think you have whatever oil/wax your using to thank for the lack of rust, not the Hydrogen Peroxide.

IMO about the only thing which would be worse than pouring Hydrogen Peroxide down the barrel would be to use bleach or to not clean the barrel at all.

I don't think anyone said the hydrogen peroxide cleaning concoction would prevent rust... You still have to get your bore dry whether you use water or the "concoction" before oiling the bore... A person can get a rusty patch from just using plain water to clean with if they don't get the bore dry before oiling it. I don't believe a person even needs to use the peroxide in the "concoction". It can be replaced with water. I'm constantly deluting my solution with water.

Peroxide is used in a solution to remove copper fouling from bench rest rifles. The solution is called Blue Goop. It is a combination of peroxide, water, & amonia. Copper in the form of bullet jackets(guilding metal) or wire is added at first to "Kick" the solution off. It is later removed as when the solution is a nice blue colour from disolved copper, it's ready for use.
: I don't know how peroxide got into a BP cleaning solution, either.
