I am 1000% in favor of rationing. I know of shooters that are Big time hoarders. They care nothing about fellow shooters, just about themselves. It’s a behavior trait that also manifests itself in other ways in their lives. Frankly they show total disrespect. The shortage we see has been created BY THEM. They strip the supply chain.
YES!! the same guys that moan about only getting one tin are the guys that got 20K caps stored home. shortages of mostly anything are man made. toilet paper craze same thing

I do not fault stores and shops for limiting cap purchases. They are simply doing what they can to at least keep some folks going for a little while. Considering we traditional ML fans are such a tiny fraction of sales to the actual ordinance manufactures of actual black powder and caps, I find it absolutely despicable for anyone to be a scalper. My guess is, most of the scalpers are not even into the trad thing other than to profit. They do not care if some folks cannot shoot their ML due to not finding any caps.

So, what is our options?

Either do a large purchase from some of the online dealers, even if it means having to pay HAZ-MAT. There are occasionally some deals pop up like in a post above where its free HAZ-MAT. Yes its a big hit on the wallet, but at least you can and should stock up on powder and caps anyway. We are living in very scary times in many aspects. Best be stocked up on anything you might think you need now.

Second choice is learn to make your own caps. There's plenty of information out there on this. Yes, it takes some trial and error and some time. But heck, once you get it down pat, you got it and really shouldn't be all that concerned about caps.

We are not allowed to discuss it here but I will state this. Some people make their own BP as well. That's as far as I will take this one.
to me there is hardly any difference between a scalper and a hoarder. both mean empty shelves

I see that at the gun shows. Same caps that Wally World sells and they have them on their tables for $35.00 a tin. These are also the same guys buying the boxes of .410's and selling them for $35 a box. I haven't found any .410's in more than a year. I know there is a walmart associate that when certain items come in like the .410's, he calls his friends and they get the items before anyone else can. He told me he does that.

Have you spoken with the store manager? Most companies take a pretty dim view of that kind of behavior. Especially when there may be liability for Walmart…

I doubt it. Some people shoot more than others. And yes, some people hoard stuff but the guy with 20k caps at home isn’t piddling around with scheels or Walmart.

In one sense, yes. No one should keep hording caps if they are not going to be using them. However, I see scalping much worse myself.

I'm tired of playing the fools game. Instead of belly aching about it, I bypass them both by ordering online even if it means more per tin. I order a lot in one shipment and stock up on what I might need and do not worry about it.

Then there's the self-made cap option, that I have yet to ventured into.

I've never had a problem with Scheels cuz I've never heard of them, till I saw this thread.
From now on I'll never have a problem with them either.

I was at the local Scheels a few weeks ago and they had caps back in stock, with no limit on purchase that I saw.

I do see online it's max qty 1, store pickup only, so the purchase limit could be online only, or it changed between my visit and now. Or I wasn't paying enough attention.

Sad thing that is going on for sure. I got 10 tins but went to 2 dz. chinamart stores in 2 States to get them. I am done with that, as all I am doing is ordering 100 flints for my rock sparkers for hunting.

Natchez shooters Supply has both CCI and Remington caps in the catalogue I received today
Yep. They recently had 1K at a decent discount plus free hazmat. Price was still more than I like to pay, but my ROA wanted to come out and play. Natchez and others have similar sales fairly often. I am glad to have the 1000 caps on hand and only cried about the price for a little while.
