It's slightly offset to the left for the hammer to clear the eye piece of the scope.

I came up with an adaptation for my TC Hawken using Talley`s earlier base &scope ring style. using bases that were of front rear the same height I mounted one ahead of the rear sight and one behind they were very close to rear sight using releaseable rifle rings for my scope I determined the height the base must be to use the open rifle sights, and adjusted , filed, the bases to .020 height mounted on rifle the scope ocular bell is about halfway between the hammer and the original rear sight. The scope is a Burris zero magnification turkey plex L.ER...
No change in balance, no interferance with caping or other loading
Carries great. Muzzleloading version of scout rifle . Scope is quickly and easily removable and sighting is repeatable. No magnafication but these 84 year old eyes almost feel 40 again due to sharpness and brightness of target
