I am new to this forum so I apologize if this question is dumb. I have a lot of experience blacksmithing and have always dreamed of a scratch build like Wallace Gussler's in the Gunsmith of Williamsburg.
Is there someone on this forum that makes the lock and barrel as well as all other parts when building a gun? Would it be ok to contact that person privately?
Thanks,
chichi

Sure it would, that's what we're here for.I forge almost everything but dont have the skill, or time for the lock and barrel. Actually neither did the gunsmiths of old. Most bought these parts as well.

There are two members here that I can think of who can do it.The first is Flintriflesmith(Gary Brumfield) and Chris Laubach. They both have been very helpful in answering questions.Send them a PM the worst that can happen is you don't get an answer.

You could also try contacting the guys at Cabin Creek Muzzleloading. I don't know if they build all their guns lock, stock, and barrel, but I know they know how.

They're a business, but from what I've heard about them, I don't think they'd mind talking shop to someone willing to learn the trade.

Thanks for the replies. I have a video on rifle making by a Laubach whose first name I dont recall but I think it is John. I assume the reference is to his son. Thanks so much.

I have received help from Steve Bookout at Toad Hall. He has been fabulous with his knowledge. I just feel guilty relying on him so much. He wont take anything in payment for his help either. What a great guy!
I will introduce myself to the other gentlemen identified in the replies.
Thanks to all.

glad to see another interested in lock, stock and barrel building. I build non-firing replicas of 1840's derringers, all my friends know want shooters.I will be following this thread with earnest. deringer mike
