Shooting Round balls without using patches...does that work??

For a few years now, I have loaded my .50 caliber, Traditions Kentucky percussion rifle with 50 grains of 2f, a wad of wasper nest, a bare .495 round ball and topped off with another wad of wasper nest. I can consistently hit a basketball size target at 50 yards with this load.

I don’t if this would be considered a bare ball load or not. It’s my favorite load in the Kentucky rifle.
