This year I havnt been using both barrels much. If I reload the right I shoot everything with that barrel.

If I just use an OS card on top of the left. After a couple shots about the card moves and all the shot Dumps out the left barrel.

I tried 2 os cards i though would work. I found a bunch of shot in a my gun case yesterday. I reloaded the left with lead and used half a nitro cards on top. That's good and tight I don't think it will come loose.

Should I get a larger size OS card?
or
get more nitro cards and split them in half and just use those? They do work good and they split easy.

Just wondering because I'm going to need more OS card and supplies soon.

I have two double barrel smoothbores, Pietta 10 gauge, and a Pedersoli 20 gauge upland. I love those guns, but like you, I found that I was primarily shooting one barrel…the off barrel needed to be packed after every reload, less so if the barrel was fouled. It’s just part of running double barrels

Then I got my first single barrel smoothbore, a Brown Bess Carbine kit, and started shooting flintlocks. Been shooting flintlocks for most of the last 30+ years. Single barrel smoothy, fun, fun, fun.

I had the same problem when I started. Going up a size in OS cards helps a lot, virtually eliminates it in the field, Except on time when I fell in a treacherous clear cut. I have had a few loads come loose after a bumpy car ride, with the gun laid flat. If i'm not in a big hurry I tend to check/re-seat the OS card in the left barrel.

I haven’t had an issue with the off barrel getting loose after a shot. I don’t reload until I’ve shot both barrels, so there’s only the one shot to dislodge the other barrel. I have heard some say that Pedersolis run a little small, so perhaps I am using oversize overshot cards. One thing I think might be helping me is that I don’t cut my overshot card. It is harder to get into place, but I think the lack of air flow might help keep the card in place.

Also, I face the card so the dished edge is facing up and without lube, though I can’t say if those things make a difference. I put lube on my wad.

You're right. That's what I was doing at first, using up both barrels then reloading. I didn't have the issue. Some fouling wouldn't hurt either. I'm going to try to use that barrel for a few. I'll try a bag of 9ga os cards i think. I started over, cleaned the gun, and loaded with half and half - half nitro over powder, half nitro over shot. I'm not sure what I think about the half nitro. It's been growing on me. I've shot a rabbit with that combo and it worked well.

Im trying this now. Half nitro and 1 wool wad over powder...... half nitro over the shot. We will see if it kills rabbit.
