I'm building a Pedersoli Harper's Ferry pistol. This pistol has no rear sight. Pedersoli has equipped it with a brass blade front sight, but historically it had none. Any recommendations on the proper sight picture to use for shooting this pistol at both close range at about seven yards and long range at 25 yds plus?

My HF pistol is .54 cal, SB, with the low brass sight, I aim down the barrel, on a man sized target I hold at waist level, at 15 yards, it tends to shoot high. Good luck

.... I aim down the barrel....
OK, thanks. So, you'd say you're using sight picture "A"?

It is a "point and shoot" gun not a target pistol. Shoot the pistol then use your knife --- :ghostly:

It should be "B". but the aim point should be the belt line, of a human target.
As others have said those pistols were made for close range human targets in combat.
A belt line POA will ensure a torso hit,, after that it's a club,,
