So I see you tried inletting black, but no word? Did you check the level and how did things work out for you?

I trimmed the area in a few places and got it as close as I think I can get it. I shot it yesterday and only had a small trace of residue behind the lock. Can't get any closer or the frizzen will hit the barrel.

If you really can't close the gap completely, soft solder a shim onto the bolster. If you continue to shoot the gun with the gap there, one day you may blow the lock off with powder build up.

The gap is about the thickness of a piece of paper now. The powder was in the shape or outline of the pan on back side of lock. None was on the bolster this time.

No you won't blow the lock off with a gap the thickness of paper. I do like the idea of soldering a shim but your going to have to file it down very thin but I would think that you will be ok .

if you go to an auto parts store, you can usually get a set of feeler gauges for cheap (unless you find one at a yards sale or somesuch). I've found these to be very handy in making a filler that's just the right thickness, and yet plenty strong.

one guy's free advice, and doubtless well worth the price...

good luck with your project!
