Source of Thick Steel

Against better advice I think I'll try to dovetail a steel insert into a Brass pipe tomahawk. I need a small piece of high carbon steel maybe 3/8" thick 1 1 1/4" wide, and 3 inches long. Any suggestio0ns on scrap steel with high carbon that would work?

Leaf spring from a car or truck?

I use old lawn mower blades

Lots of older leaf springs were made from 5160 -- a very useful steel.

I think the auto/truck springs are about it, the lawn mower blade I think would be too thin.

Not the old Wheel Horse blades, more than thick enough.
