Is anyone going to the Southwestern Regional Rendezvous in Hearne, Texas? March 16-20, 2007.
Anyone know about this Rondy. How well is it run?
Is it in a nice area for a Rondy? How are the shooting events Etc.?

Not sure of our schedule yet for 2007. Generally the SW Reg Rondy is a well -run and well-attended event. Last one I was at was in Louisiana a couple years ago--missed the last one in Texas. Good group of folks--independent of the NMLRA events (they broke off years ago)--there is a rowdy camp that can get rowdy (and noisy), but, heck, it is a rondezvous! Generally they have shooting events (rifle, smoothies, bow&arrow), hawk events, knife events, etc. Generally there is a good number of vendors, including clothing, gear, foofaraw and food/drink. Pre-1840 rules apply.

P.S. the shooting events include shooting at variety targets and various ranges offhand and a "Texas against the world" challenge shoot to see which team (TX or World) can shoot a post in half the fastest. World is all-comers. Texas usually wins. They use big bores! I don't remmeber all the events, but it is fun.

Oh, about the location--it changes year to year, and I have not seen the Hearne locale. The one in LA was on a nice piece of private land in rural North LA--rolling meadows and groves of shade trees above a wooded bottom--distant from highway or town noises. Last one in TX suffered from a fire ban due to the drought.

I think it is close to College Station Texas where Texas A&M University is.

Thanks alot Mike sounds like my kinda place. Yes I go to the Western Natls here in Rockies, same set up. I also note no sun glasses of any kind. You will have to have a Dr. send a letter stating you need them.I shoot flint and have hardened lens don't want a shard going ito my eye. I'll have Doc send them a letter. Also was snow blinded years back can't handle glare. Did you run ito this in Luzziann?
Davy, yes its 22 1/2 miles north of Bryan, Txs and about 10 miles west of Hearne, Txs. I will be headed back to Wyoming from the shoots in Az. We have this one on our schedule. Can't wait sounds like fun.

Almost forgot what is the weather like that time of year? My kids live in Dallas and it seems to rain up that way in March, but not bad other wise.

Thx

I go to the Alamo High Holy Week every year in San Antonio, in early March. Texas weather in that general area at that time is variable, than can some rain but not always and is generally rather nice (60-80's). The problem is ya never know until it hits ya. SO come prepared! :hmm:

Hello and greetings Mike.

I am unfamiliar with 1840's rules or any rules for that matter. I would like to shoot but I guess they won't let me unless I am in period costume huh?

ps would my Hawken in percussion and iron sights be Pc?

Thanks Davy living in Wyoming we always go ready for any kind of weather. In March it will be below zero and lots of snow around my cabin. My house is at 7,000' so spring time in Texas sounds great. I won't need ski mitts to load my flinter.

Yes your Hawken will pass muster if it has open sights no peeps. These Regional Shoots are picky in most regions. You will have to have the right foot wear, no sun glasses. You must have shirts and pants that fit the time slot. They like for you to wear the old style eye glasses even in the clear version. I am a shooter so I don't care for some of this PC stuff. That being said, they are usally nice well run Rondys and the extra effort is worth it. You can get by with cotton drop front pants and a shirt with no zippers. They are not too picky on hats. They do ban my favorite head gear the cowboy hat. Most of them allow the old style Texas straw flat top version, coon skins, low crown felt etc. For foot wear Moccs or brogan style work shoes. No out siders are allowed in after openning day, no cars allowed in after opening day. Ice chest must be kept covered, no flash cameras. any modern items must be covered up and out of view. Horses, mules, dogs, cats,an oxen are welcome but under control of the Capt. of the Horse camp. Tin Tepees are only allowed in the outide parking areas. No modern firearms any where any time. That about covers it. One more thing if have to wear sun glasses you will :haha: need a letter from your Doc at sign in. :snore: Please don't let this scare you off, they are neat Rondys.

Yep I went there last year in Aquilla Tx, about 20 miles north of Waco TX, at Pinky's place, Dead Horse Creek, I think the name was. It was great and the people are great, you will love it and they do have Weds visitors day and 100's of school kids come to it and also on Sat lots of folks. I don't think they are super picky on clothing as long as you stay real close to PC. I came in as a visitor everyday and it was a lot of fun and ate at one of the cafes, Some goooood Prairie Dog eating

Why is that? I went to the Midwest Regional in Neb. in June. It was on "DEAD HORSE CREEK" near Chadron.
What does Buckskinners and dead horses have in common? Wait, don't answer that.
Thanks for the Info. Looks like we will be in the Lone Star in March.
