Stock Finish ? - Boiled Linseed Oil or Tung Oil

Although I always use LMF sealer, your choice of tung oil over linseed oil is the way to go. My first LR was finished w/ linseed and req'd many days and weeks of rubbing and drying and caused me to wonder why any gunmaker in 1790 would go thru this procedure, seeing he had to make some money to support his family. Anyways, I took this LR deer hunting and sat in the rain for 5 hrs. and finally had to use my red handkerchief to wipe the "gunky mess" off my LR that I had so diligently and lovingly rubbed for weeks on end. Never considered using any concoction of linseed oil after that episode and have found LMF sealer to be a better protector from water and a much quicker and easier way to achieve a very durable finish. I suspect that the tung varnish that you're using will possibly give similar results....Fred
