If anyone comes across any of the Cap & Ball pistols in the list below, they were stolen 04-01-2014 from my back room. :cursing: :cursing:

1. Remington Pocket Pistol, .31 cal brass frame s/n 65306

2. Colt 1860 Uberti "Western Arms", .44 cal steel frame s/n A13542

3. Colt 1862 Police model Uberti, .36 cal steel frame s/n 90685

4. Whitney "Dixie Gunworks", .36 cal steel frame s/n 000124

5. Griswold & Gunnison, .36 cal brass frame, s/n 352898

6. Schneider & Glassic replica (1851 Colt brass frame) bleach rusted & browned, .36 cal s/n302257

7. Remington 1858 "Dixie Gunworks", .44 cal steel frame, s/n 105495

8. Colt 1849 Wells Fargo, CVA .31 cal brass framed blackened with BC Brass Black, s/n 86954

9. Colt 1851 .36 cal steel frame "fllipietta" s/n 375988

All of the Colts except the Wells Fargo have tarnished silver plating on the trigger guard and backstrap.

My wife is a night person and was sitting in one of the bedrooms listening to some audio book with her earbuds plugged in. Most of the lights in the house were on because she doesn't go to bed until about 7 in the morning.

While she was listening, someone ripped the screen off one of the back room sliding windows, flipped the board that was keeping the window from opening out of the channel and entered the house thru it.

He/she took one of my old backpacks that was hanging there and then proceeded to take the pistols off of the wall where they were hanging.

He/she then unlocked both locks on the back door and left, dropping my Rogers & Spencer .44 on the way out.

The first clue my wife had was the Great Dane across the street started barking so loudly that she could hear it even with the ear buds in her ear.
She got up and noticed the cat was staring towards the back room so she went in and found what had happened.

Apparently, the Anal Orifice didn't have room to take my Walker or my 3rd Model Dragoon.
He/she left them along with some small single shot pistols, hanging on the wall untouched.

I expect him to come back. My modern guns are loaded, waiting.

The Police came and took a full report including all of the serial numbers but I'll probably never see any of my revolvers again.

Poor way to start the new month, I say. :(

If this is an "April fool" post it's a scary one yet it is in keeping with the honored date.

But actually having this happen is so agonizing I would be unable to function; it would probably bring me to tears. It's no different from taking a portion of ones life; plus the emotional damage to a family's feeling of safety is beyond any calculation. I've been burgled before but not so destructively. I empathize profoundly and am very, very sorry for such a great loss.

Really too bad you did not catch the person in the act with one of your modern tools at the ready. I wonder if the perpetrator knows he got a bunch of black powder stuff. He might have a hard time selling that .44 magnum when they can't figure out where the bullets go. I feel for your loss, been there.

About 12 years ago, Five of my guns were stolen. The thief took a cheap Savage 22 but left a Stevens 44 with DST's that was next to it. The guns taken were sort of the junk of the litter, but still mine and one had a sentimental attachment. A 303 Enfield with a hooked shaped butt stock used in a WW2 camel corp unit by a retired fellow who lived a few doors down the street.

we got hit in October..rifles they caught them but all but one gun have not been found.. seems to me someone had to have been there before...to calculated..
hope they shoot the SOB ..

I hope this is an April's Fool joke. :shocked2:
Otherwise, a real bummer. And scary.
Arm your wife, buy the neighbors Great Dane, get some kind of gun vault and security system.
I am :cursing: just reading about your loss. And, fact your wife was helpless and in danger is even more maddening.
Hope you recover your valuable property.

Seems like it would be a bit difficult to sell stolen PB pistols. Is there a black market for guns anyone can buy for $200.00? I know your's were more than that, but BP is just not that pricey. I hope they hang the SOBs.

That's what I was thinking (or someone from the neighborhood that sees you taking guns in and out of the house). Sorry to hear about this, Zonie :shake:

These type burglaries are usually of the "targeted" variety. It had to be someone who knew you had the collection. Very unlikely to be a total stranger so keep an eye on the neighborhood.

Zonie, very sorry for the theft of your cap and ball guns. Glad your wife was not physically hurt.

Hope you get your stolen guns back and that karma bites the criminal(s).

Good that you had the descriptions and serial numbers for the police in case your guns are recovered. Thanks for posting your list here; will keep it in mind when surfing the gun sales sites and attending gun shows.

Brings to mind some Hank Jr. lyrics that include Beechnut and forty five.
I'm really sorry to hear about this.

Jeez louise! And your wife was there!!!

I'm sorry for this. At least most were replicas. Some a whole kid who saw them through a window!? Who would knowingly steal reproductions...

I need a drink now...

If they sell them to a pawn shop, you may get them back IF the police give a manure enough to check them.

I'm surprised you had all of the serial numbers. I'd better write mine down.

He probably didn't know what he was stealing. Hoods don't want cap & ball guns.

Awful news :cursing:
Glad nobody was hurt,
Insurance? It can't replace the memories but it can help with a foot up towards replacements.

Thanks for all of your thoughts.

It is no April Fool joke. Yup. It happened.

A couple of times during the past week I noticed the gate which leads out to the alley was open so I have no doubt that someone was in my yard.
If they had looked thru the rear windows they would have seen my BP pistols on the wall.

I fixed the gate situation by driving two 3/8" X 6" long lag bolts thru it and into the fence posts. The gate can't be opened now but whoever did this came into my backyard thru the side gate next to my house.

I don't know if they knew these were black powder pistols or not. They did not take several muzzleloading single shot pistols that were hanging there with the rest.

As for selling them, I don't doubt there are some shady pawn shops that might give the AH $200 for the lot of them.
I estimate their market value at somewhere around $1800. With that sort of profit available, no telling what might happen to them.

Anyway, the rear windows on my house are now double locked along with several alarms which will go off if the AH gets past the locks. :cursing:

Zonie, Sorry for your loss, But I'm glad your wife is ok. There's nothing I hate worse than a thieving, low life, gun stealing piece of $---!I hope they catch the pukes who did this to you.
