Swivel guns on tripods

I have a 1/3 scale M1841 six pounder replica, cast by the Jordan River Iron Works, Jordan River, Mi in 1976 as a bicentnial item-30 inches long -110 lbs weight, 2 inch bore. In 1998 I had a tripod made to mount it on with the idea of using is for deer hunting. Subsequently, wanted to used for reenacting and had South Bend Replicas put in a 1/4 in liner reducing the bore to 1.5 inches. The best original live load was 12 11ga Brown Bess balls over 2 ounces of powder. Now it shoots the best pattern with 12 .60 balls over 2 oz. of powder.
My question to list is anyone aware of swivel guns being used in the field on tripod mounts?
I seem to recall a post on the Revwar list that swivels were used on tripods in the Southern Colonies during the French&Indian War.

Would there be anything left of a deer using that load?? Sorry, don't have any documentation of field use with a tripod or any other mount for that matter.

This is how it looked in 97. Now the legs are OD and rounded on the bottom to handle recoil.

You may want to check with your game commission. That could be an illegal action - hunting deer with artillery. (no, I am not joking here...)

That was in Michigan and after due research there was no bar to using it except the specification that only one deer be harvested per license.

Here in Idaho it would not be legal. Our Game commission rather elegantly handled the problem of .50 BMG for Elk by simply limiting the weight of any arm used for hunting to 16 lbs.

my regimental sergeant major has a small swivel gun that have used for morning services such as flag raisings and the such while at reenacting events. as far as using int in the field i know of a voyageur unit that uses a swivel gun on the bow of their canoe during battles. other than that i have never really seen anyone use one on the field for a F and I battle. but i can't imagine any reason why they wouldn't be. especially for a militia unit.

Hammkiller I wish I had an answer for you I could back up with a fact or two ......., but I dont.
Here are a few of my renditions of a field swivel . We shoot these several times a year . A Swivel is great fun and a good way to go for someone wanting a cannon thats a bit more portable.

Try not to laugh now ., I use 2 Pontiac universal joint caps from the rearend of any 60's era Pontiac. The lower clamp gets a 7/16 course thread nut welded to the clamp. 2 little pieces of all thread and 4 brass Acorn nuts later with copper tubing to hide the all-thread and there you go a secured tiller.

I can't remember where I got this information. But it was my understanding that the swivel gun was used a couple of times during the civil war to help block river fords. I was considering picking one up for firing when I get to old to carry a musket. This is how I knew about the river crossings.- You got to have the documentation for use at reenactments.

I was going to have a friend fabricate a Trailer hitch mount for mine. Just back my SUV up to the range.
