how do you apply it and how much do you use? im using precut patches and rubbing both sides across the lube then rubbing it in good between my fingers.. is there an easier/ faster way??? thanks. mike

Try it just as @azmntman says and see how your gun likes it. If you don’t like the results rub both sides of the patch. May take less or more.
I apply mink oil on only 2 or 3 patches at a time because I’m never in too much of a hurry. When you find what amount works best for your gun you could warm it up and do a batch of patches as long as you stay consistent.

I smear a little on one side and work it into the patch. I really only use it for hunting or shooting in colder weather. Shoots the same as my pre-lubed patches of the same thickness.

Swab a bunch on one side, stackem up and throw them in microwave for 15 sec at a time to melt/spread the oil. Caution hot oil will burn your fingers.
This is what I do and it works great. I let them cool until they are not too hot to touch and press down hard on them with my palm, makes the lube absorb into any parches that are a little light on lube.

One side, both sides, just enough to matter... just don't use too much. I cursed the stuff for years thinking it didn't do anything to help keep fouling soft or make loading easier, until I realized I was just using too dang much of it. I'll still pre-soak patches in it after melting a little but I squeeze the excess out.

I usually rub both sides on the MO cake and work in in really well with thumb & finger. I like lots of lube on my patches and it has always worked very well.

I was doing as you described, rubbing both sides on the lube and then rubbing it in with my thumb and forefinger. Then, while experimenting with different things to shrink my groups, I tried less lube. I found that my particular rifle really likes a tight pillow ticking patch, lubed only on the smooth side, rough cross-hatch side against the ball. This alone shrunk my group from 3” to what you see below. Distance is 50yds. First shot of 4 was a flyer as I had just cleaned the barrel. My rifle likes to have a spit patch and a dry patch ran between shots. If I use a cleaner, I get a flyer or 2. It’s. 50 cal and I’m running a .490 ball with .018” pillow ticking patch - the patch is a CVA precut, so I think it’s even thicker than the advertised .018”. I could not run a thicker patch and still get it down the bore, so it’s real tight. I like the mink oil, but in my case, I found that less is more.
Powder charge for those who want to know is 80gr 3F Goex, Rifle is TC Renegade 50.

I like it but I have only been using it for a couple of months. It is slick as eel s**t. It worked real well the other day in some 33 degree weather. Haven't tried it out in the heat yet. I just drag my patch across it making sure its enough pressure to pickup some of the lube without completely coating your patch. I was having some problems with loading my rifle after 4-5 shots without swabbing. The mink oil fixed that.

Been using grease type lubes for many moons. Mostly , I only lube up about 50 patches at a time , 'cause that many lasts me three trips to the range , and a deer hunt or two. I discovered the guns I have and had, like patches with lube applied, and the excess rubbed off with hard thumb pressure. Most home stores have 15 " by 12" plastic cutting board covers to protect the board from knife wounds. Cut these into quarters , and use them to grease patches , then put the patches in a small container to keep the grease out of your shot pouch ,or pocket. I buy several hundred precut , dry ,.015 thick patches, lube up what is needed. Caution......Most store bought patches are labeled , for instance , .015 , and compression mic.ed to .012. My current .50 cal. Colerain barrel likes .012. , w/ the grease thumb rubbed to sparse amount. .......oldwood

I have used it during the heat and really liked it. I didn’t have any issues with it melting. It may have gotten softer, but mostly I thought it to be pretty consistent. Way better than other lives I’ve tried. I won’t even waste my time with bore butter anymore. That stuff is like water in the heat, and too stiff to squeeze out of the tube in the cold. Real cruddy product in my opinion.
