I'm new to the forum and today I'm looking for information. I have a few India made flintlock pistols. Each pistol is completely hand made. I need to make new screws here and there. To do that I need to buy a tap and die set but I'm not sure if the screw pitch is (BSC) British Standard Cycle, or British Standard Whitworth or what. They are not SAE or Metric. Anyone work on these India guns and know for sure?
Thanks.

As of 30 yrs ago, India adopted a form of the international Organization for Standardization size threads and it became illegal to manufacture other threads except where necessary for the type of fastener involved. But according to regulations issued by the Indian Bureau of Standards, all threads should be listed on the ISO standards. That does not mean a whole lot since there are dozens of ISO standards for various applications.

That said, I checked my Indian made pistol and found the threads to be metric except for the musket nipple thread..

I need to update this post. I ordered a tap and die set from India. My Metrics were not just right. The screws on the lock plates of India made guns are British Standard Whitworth, BSW. They are in fact designated in U.S. SAE but they have a 55 degree pitch instead of a 66 degree pitch. This makes all the difference.

As an example, the lock plate screws on my Prussian Dragoon are 1/4 X 20 BSW. The Frizzen screw is 3/16 X 24 BSW and the internal lock screws are 5/32 X 32 BSW. I hope this helps someone else thats into making their own lock parts.

Thanks
