Taylor vs. cimarron vs. Traditions vs. Pietta?

Is it worth buying a Taylor or Cimarron revolver over a Traditions Pietta? Are the Traditions Pietta finished worse- you know kind of a Walmart version? I would like to get a 1851 .36 steel frame. I might add that I will have to order it sight unseen.

Here is the thing. Importation is a complicated and private-Government process.
larger importers get involved at the point of manufacture. Cimarron and Taylors are
two of the top importers with Good reputations to protect. if I were buying today
I would check for a used deal on the forum, and also look at Cimarron & Taylors.

Taylor's and some Cimarron's are Uberti. I don't even screw with a Traditions unless the person says he has to have it! So far I prefer the Taylors over Cimarron mainly because the Taylor's comes in a nice zip up soft case. I've had some sketchy. Pietta's metal burrs inside locking up the cylinder on several. Had 2 Pietta's this year that were flawless so maybe being short staffed the guns spent more time on the bench.
My comment may be a bit slanted since I am a Taylors Platinum dealer.

Cimarron, I can make a road trip and look over what they have and chose one.

Taylors' if I have a problem, I can call and ask for the gunsmith and I get to talk with him. If it needs work, I send it to Taylor's via his attention. Turn around time is a day or so.

Lay a Uberti from some where and a Uberti from Taylor's or Cimarron side by side and I cannot tell the difference.

If I am in the mood for a road trip and it is in stock, it is Cimarron.

Road trip is 5 hours, so normally it is Taylor's.

That is a good question that l would like some good answers to , as I'm in the market for a new 1860 Army . I'm leaning toward Uberti at this time .

I just got a Pietta 51 Navy from Taylor's. I shopped for a while, and it was the only steel blued .36 with 7.5 inch barrel I could find. It's funny that after shooting BP for 40 years the only thing I have that works with a revolver is a loading stand and powder measure since I bought Pyrodex P to save my 3F for my flinters.

It might have been said before, but YouTube Pietta Factory Tour and see how they produce firearms. Uberti the same. If history serves me, EMF is older than Taylor’s or Cimarron. Cimarron’s gunsmith is off site,Taylor’s onsite. EMF is now the Pietta USA location. I own both Pietta and Cimarron. My one Traditions is an unmentionable rifle produced by Pedersoli. No difference except for minor options.

6thtexas. I have purchased an 1858 Uberti from Taylor's and an 1861 Pietta from Traditions. I have had no trouble with either. I can't even say that one is more mechanically sound or finished better than the other. The only minor difference to me between the two is the packaging in which you receive them. As mentioned earlier by #blackpowderbill , Taylor's gives you a nice glove/pouch with their revolvers. Personally, the traditions Pietta was finished very nice in my opinion but we all know what they say about opinions. I cannot speak of Cimarron but I understand they are often touted as having superb quality. Thanks

I have a Cimarron suppository revolver here in 45- it has a great let off however it is a Uberti.

I've had around 50 revolvers cross my bench the past 3 years mostly used. All makes 2 issues stand out ,broken hands & cylinder trigger springs on the older ones.
I don't purchase from DGW-Cabela's- Bass Pro, so unless a guy says he got this from so in so I can't give an opinion on quality.

Correction: Mine is a Velcro pouch not zippered but still I got it with my uberti Remington

I have a Cimarron imported F.LLI Pietta 1858 Remington. It was marketed under the name "Preacher". It has two interchangeable cylinders. No zippered pouch, just a cardboard box. Finish is very acceptable. Fun to shoot with either cylinder.

I need to see if the Taylor's logo is on the revolver and not just the box.

Trapper. A friend just got an 1860 Pietta from Taylor’s a week ago and it came with the canvas glove for his revolver. I would definitely call them. It was probably just an oversight on their part. Just a thought.

I read somewhere that Cimarron import their firearms from Italy et al, trick them up and slap their own brand name on them, correct me if I'm wrong here.
