A while back I was at my brothers 25th annaversary and struck up a conversation with the guy that was his best man. Turns out, he has a TC hawken kit he bought "awhile back" and never got around to working on it and asked what I would charge to put it together for him. I told him I would do it and it would'nt cost much as there's not much to them. Later in the evening we were talking trucks and I was telling him how much I liked the 6.2l diesel trucks I've had over the years. He said he had several (he owns a logging company) but all in very "used" condition. I asked how much he would take for the cheapest 4x4 diesel he had. He thought about it, looked at me and said " I'll make you a deal, you put the TC together for me and I'll give you one". I can't imagine what kind of look I gave him. I probably looked like this :what: I said 'are you serious???" he said sure. So, I put the kit together and am now the proud owner of a '86 gmc 4x4 6.2l diesel. DO I FEEL GUILTY????? YES!!!!. There's only so much that can be done to individualize a TC hawken. I reshaped the forestock to reduce the slabiness, reshaped the front of the cheekpiece slightly, reduced the wrist, and rather than the TC trademark "thumb groove", I shaped it in a more natural (to my way of thinking) fashion. I also did a bit of engraving as i have a hard time leaving a smooth surface unmolested :). He hasn't seen it yet, hope he likes it. For your amusement, heres a few pics. for a close-up of the capbox click on the link at the bottom. easier to see all the mistakes

P.S. in the box was the reciept. It was dated jan 28, 1978 and he paid $160cad. I guess the definition of "awhile back" is relative.

I think the gun is beautiful and that you have done a remarkable job. It looks like you stained the wood to look like an original Hawkin. I have the same gun...but it don't look nothing like that!

WOW!!! That is beautiful work!! Makes me with I had an old truck to trade you to fix up mine...

:applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: ....spechless............bob

he got the better end of the deal. when that gmc has returned to the soil and you are looking for a replacment, he will have an heirloom to pass on to future generations. man, that is a nice looking rifle. i would be happy to have one looking that nice. mistakes and all. great work, you have a gift.

:master:

I am poking around your website now, and I am in absolute AWE of the work that you have done!!! I know deep down in my heart that I would NEVER be able to do engraving like you have done. That is masterful work.

If you need some stuff to practice on, I can loan you my hardware. LOL!!!

Excellent job.
