Several times the members here have shared their experiences to my advantage.

Today I decided to follow up on something I've been meaning to do .. pinning the tips on a ramrod.

It only took about 20 minutes total and cost me about 2 cents for a galvanized finishing nail.
I drilled a hole through the tips on the drill press with a 1/16" bit, drove the small nail through the hole, cut it proud, peened it and polished. Voila'!

My thanks to whoever laid this out for me.

I have tried cutting a slot in the rod and fitting a small wedge into it. putting the tip on and driving it home drives the wedge into the slot....Pins work a whole lot better, and lot easier.

I don't have drill press so, can this be easily done using a standard hand drill?

I use brass nails or brads for pins. I countersink the holes and cut the brass nails with side cutters and peen the nail into the holes. Brass nails or brads can be bought at most hardware stores. (not the Big box stores ) :idunno:

Can you see the pin?

what's the easy way to get a brass pin?

I use brazing rod, available from a welders supply. One stick will go a long way. But, it is fairly hard and can be difficult to peen. Or use plain #12 or #10 copper wire. Soft and easy to peen. Some simple begging at a construction site will get you some.

Hobby shops also may carry brass rods, and possibly even steel music wire, which has an abundance of uses.

Thanks guys
Ace Hardware is the easy try for me
If not there I'll go TOW
