I do use a 1/16 pin for the trigger guard and the thimbols but I like the 5/64 dia pin for the barrel underlugs. I think the little extra strength the extra 1/64 gives the drill a better chanch of drilling thru without breaking.
In fact, after reading about your problems, I may just use the 5/64 diameter pins for the other parts too.
 
Not a ML but gun related. Ever get M1 thumb? I did and eventually lost the nail. Never had something hurt so bad.
 
In the future, after measuring, drill in just enough to mark the lugs with the bit. Remove the barrel to drill the lugs themselves, give 'em a slight countersink on both sides, then put the barrel back in and drill the rest of the way through the stock. You won't break bits in the stock doing that, and the countersink will help with removing and re-installing the barrel down the road. :thumbsup:
 
Glad to see I am not the only one who tends to lose focus and do silly things. Told the wife that I am not the only one who does these things now I have some proof :haha:
