He sent me one to test for a product review. Before I could do it he went out of business. No state would approve for hunting and NMLRA rules would not allow. I still have mine which I keep as a novelty. Not very well made. Besides, I feel, if you are going to shoot flinters, shoot flint.

I have been told that the US Army's soldiers that demo-fire flintlock muskets use a pyrite instead of a flint, and the frizzen is faced with an abrasive plate, so they always get a spark that way....

It is just a strip of leather superglued to the frizzen. I actually fashioned one myself and made the test vid for it..then he reached out to me and sent me a few to test..we tested it and made a vid for it..come to find out..the original Mr Kyper..really ****** off the Pa game folks..to the point they put special wording in the state law to omit his flintwheel..shame..works really well.

I appreciate the nostalgia of shooting a flintlock..but enjoy the shooting more.. I have yet to find a flint that would strike every time...someday..I may need to feed myself with this rifle..I want every advantage.

Your problem is likely due more to a poor lock than the flint. Good lock and decent flint gives near 100% reliable ignition. But, I've tried it only a few hundred thousand times. Wadda I know?

It is indeed a flint..wheel. The ones made from actual flint are far less reliable..that is provable. Not out to sell this idea to anyone..just sharing its reliability..it is not the brand but the idea. IF you are against reliablility....then do not try it.

"Near" 100%..yep I get that..but I am talking about shooting game..not paper...and no I did not give a thousand bucks plus for one..nor would I. I am aware..that one can spend a bunch of money and have.."near" 100% reliability..I already have that..near is not close enough.

Have you considered one of those unmentionables that use those brass things that hold powder and have a primer?
I hear those are pretty reliable.

years ago I remember seeing somone's proposed tip/trick to drill a small block of wood to hold Zippo type flints in a row as a flint replacement. don't know if it worked cuz I was doing caplocks at the time.

I have a flint that is made with diamond dust. It is a great sparker, and never needs knapping. The only problem for me is that it is only 1/2 X 1/2" and it doesn't fit the cock of most of my flint locks, but works well in a pistol.

No problem sparks every time with English flints I make. Flint from the south chalk hills of uk. Ok after a while they get blunt and the sparks fall off. But no worries Love glints in original Bess locks my coat flint pistol lock never misses
