Sully that is a fine lookin hawken you got there. I have a Jim Bridger from totw it has a Jim Goodoin (I hope I spelled that right) barrel on it an it is a tackdriver but very heavy :thumbsup:

Thank you. I would like to see photos of your rifle also. My rifle is from the Hawken Shop and has a Getz barrel. A friend of mine built a Jim Bridger kit from TOTW with the high grade wood. It is a great looking rifle also.

That is a fine looking piece, for sure! Is the barrel straight or tapered?

The barrel is a straight 1 1\8 x 36" by Bill Large. Lock by Ron Long of Denver. Triggers are Davis Ron Long pattern. Thanks for all of the compliments. :redface:

Your rifle is in excellent shape, almost like brand new. How did you happen to come by it?

That difference is,shall we say,Intuitively obvious to the most casual observer. I would like to know the physical differences in the rifles styles.Thank you .

What are the differences between the J&S Hawken and the S Hawken rifles ? I have a S Hawken and im curious about this. Looking at pictures does not seem to help me.

Buy Baird's "Hawken Rifles". Look at the pictures of ORIGINAL GUNS. Looking a repros will not help much unless made by someone who is very well versed.
J&S guns often have a curved comb line. I figure these were stocked by Jake. Some J&S guns have a straight comb line. I figure these were done by Sam since all the later guns have the straight line.
J&S guns are usually a little trimmer than the later guns are. And they are more likely to have early features like unsophisticated patent breeches.
