That is a pretty neat little cannon kit. The plus side to this, is the bore is done! The reviews seem pretty good to.

Not to worry, when it comes to cannons you will be thinking about larger sizes eventually

Ahhh, yes. Happiness is a Warm Gun! Smoke wafting down the line. The reverating concussion through the land. MMMumph!

I bought one in the late 70s when they were about $25! It was fun to play with and assemble.

Be aware that the bronze barrel is a pretty rough casting. If you have access to a lathe to clean it up it will be helpful. I used to load it with a round ball and about 30 grns of powder. On a flat surface the gun would recoil about 4 feet. :shocked2:

Dixie Gun works is a bit pricey. Go to the Cannon Mania site. They have better prices for the 50 cal. field gun with aluminum carriage. You will spend some time filiong all the parts and polishing. The barrel can be moothes with a file, first, then use increasingly finer grades of emery cloth. It is fun to shoot.

If you going to to play with cannons how about starting with a 75 cal. 18in. barrel or bigger. Then you will know what it's all about. The bigger the bang the better for all kinds of events, birthdays, weddings, new years and lots more. Any how hope that you have fun any way with what ever you buy, they are all great fun to have and play with. From 6 pounder.

Cannons are a bit like fish ponds - start with the biggest you can get. The only advantages of a small cannon are that they are easier to move around and store and they use less powder. Other than that big is better.
