For fine removal I like to use burlap and gun oil. I like to say it's 500 grit. The burlap holds the oil and carries awar the debrie. Change often to keep debrie from building up.

My father gave me one of these he picked up at a gun show; it cleaned the rust from a gifted barrel with first use - I had been working for Months with various oils, cleaners, and 000 steel wool with no luck - I'm sold....but I have not tested the "Wont harm blueing" claim yet.

Which color of ScotchBrite is equivalent to 0000 steel wool?

Many Scotch-Brite options. The light gray 7448 is the equivalent of 0000 steel wool per 3M charts. I’m also a fan of the Big 45 Frontier Metal Cleaner.
