I actually had a brother born with this condition who underwent corrective surgery for it and died at the age of 16 days old, just a fact.
 
Then of course many people have some event that leads to loss of the rectum. From spam to rectums, is that a commentary on the taste of spam? I can take it or leave it but my dad had a low opinion of its taste. Maybe he had a mite too much during the war.
 
Here in UK in the forties and fifties, a leg of Spam was a frequent visitor to our dining table. So too were Spam chops and even, on one notable occasion, Spam crumble.

Thankfully, those meals just happened to coincide with the time I lived with my grandparents, who were way too poor to be able to afford such luxuries as Spam.

However, in the last thirty years or so, Spam and I have become re-aquainted in the form of a nutritious kind of open sammidge. I would offer you the recipe but I warn you that it contains many, MANY thousands of them nasty calorie things - indeed, even looking at the recipe dreckly might result in gaining a couple of pounds before you can blink.

Most of the "objections" to SPAM outside of those who do not care for the taste, is the salt. Which was why I did the experiment of par-boiling before frying, to pull out some salt. Those with salt or nitrite sensitivity, beware, it will surely swell your ankles.

Speaking of recipes, I have been recently told by a person who grew up in Hawaii in the 1960's - 70's that "Hawaiian Pizza" made with ham and pineapple is "right out"! The "ham" should be standard flavor SPAM, as that's what regular residents of Hawaii had as a common meat to put onto pizza. Ham (even canned), I am told, was rather expensive.

Again, I found at a Market Fair when camping, when SPAM was sliced thin and fried, it made a good substitute for actual bacon, especially for situations without the ice to keep supermarket bacon cold, and compared to the price of air-cured bacon.

I've carried and used standard bacon for 3 days without any refrigeration (in the hottest part of the year averaging 80-90F during the day). I'll take bacon over Spam any day and no tin to pack in/out.
 
I don’t use much spam as the taste doesn’t really get my attention. It’s ok but I’d rather have something different.
My go to canned meat is monkey meat.... corned beef. Four to six taters, onion, garlic fried till soft but not yet browning, add the canned beef, cooked till browned that you can mix through as you stir.
 
For all interested in trail food, Tyson sells "inverted pork rectums." (look it up.) Big deal in Asia. I think you can dry them and smoke them.
 
My opinion is we are going to get snow here tonight. Tomorrow it may still be an opinion, but also may turn into a fact unless it is fake news.

My opinion is Spam is occasionally okay, but the fact is it is a pain on a computer.

Don’t know that I’ve ever had rectum but a bit of chitlins or boudin if you prefer, lots of natural sausage casings. Meat’s meat.

I'm doing five days, and the other advantage is convenience when obtaining it at the local store coupled with I can put it on the shelf when I get home if it's not opened. OF course I can find bacon at the local stores, but after three to five days without being kept cool, I probably can't put that in the fridge when I get home and eat it later....;)
Corned beef is good and you can put that up on the shelf when you get back, but, being frugal, it's 2x the price of the SPAM. Now a can of Corned Beef Hash, ready to heat up, costs about 30 cents less than SPAM, so that's another option. I rather like corned beef hash over fried bacon flavor spam, especially with some cayenne added to the hash.

I saw the photo of the boxes labeled as “boneless pork rectums inverted”. The “boneless” is confusing!
I do like tripe, but that is as close as I want to get to rectums!

Spam is a great camp food. My daughter used to take it with her as a smoke jumper. I prefer the low sodium stuff. The Hawaiians make a musubi which is equvalent to a sandwich for them. Spam fried in teriyaki with a slab of sushi rice (the can is used to mold the rice) wrapped in seaweed. It’s really good.

That's the same stuff being passed off as "artificial calamari" in various restaurants and markets in the US. Some restaurants have been caught serving it without the "artificial" part of the labeling mentioned. It t'aint squid.... ;-)
 
Little while ago I opened a can of spam to go with a bannock for my supper. Its not expensive, its tasty, its easy to fix. Whats not to like?
 
What is a bannock
Bannock is like bread, but thick and chewy. Very filling. Eat with butter and syrup, or jelly, or any thing you like. It can be made different ways. I use the Cree way I grew up eating. Flour, salt, baking powder, water, melted butter if you have it. Spread flat across an iron skillet if you have one, and put on the stove on a medium heat flip when it becomes firm enough. If you have no skillet you can spread on a rock, split log facing the fire or even wrap around a stick if you have no skillet, or no flat rock.
