Saturday 1-4-24
Took the 2 hr drive north to Tioga State Forest and arrived before light.
Slip hunted all day long, it was blowing and a high of 22. Fresh 1" of snow.
Went almost 11 miles the phone said.
Only jumped one deer at noon, a small buck, and couldn't see if he had 3 on a side to be legal and I never had any great shot opportunity.
Continued to hunt only to find a few tracks congregated near clear cuts as usual.
The day was coming to a near close and I was in a cut, walking down a dead fall, stepped to the ground and looked below me amazed to see a large doe was standing there quartering to me locked onto me, a good 70 yards away.
I swung the gun and touched it off at 4:59 pm, and she only went about 50 yards.
Heart shot with no blood trail. Entered her left shoulder and exited forward of the rear leg.
She was the 2nd deer I saw the whole day.
14th flintlock deer, 82nd PA whitetail.
.58 Early PA gun
70 grains 3F
.562 hand cast ball
.015 ticking lubed with beargrease/beeswax
