In my digging for information about original rifles I have not noticed any discussion regarding 'cast-off". Now that I think about it I don't recall any original rifle having cast to accommodate a shooter other than those weird German rifles which shoot around corners šŸ˜. Anyone have a thought or opinion about this small detail?

Hi,
It is really a matter of fit to the owner not styling. You can make some adjustments for fit by the shape of the cheek piece if your gun has one but some, particularly big guys, benefit from having cast off in the stock. Personally, I don't need it on my guns for me.

All my LRs have cast on or cast off but none of my Hawken builds have it....the stocks are kinda "skinny" compared to LRs. When cast is used, it's only 3/16". My bird gun is an 870 Rem. pump which really fits me well and it also has a "skinny" stock. Been around guns since 7 yrs old and have found that what fits me usually fits most men...most of my builds have been spec builds and have never heard a complaint about the fit...from any customer.....Fred
