For you guys that clean in the stock using the pump method (in the house), do you hit the ceiling with the pump rod (i do), so it seems to work best outside or in the shop, which is fine in warm season, not so much in the winter. Also, when pulling the cleaning solution (whatever it may be) from the can/bottle/bucket, after the first pump, you are just re-circulating the dirty BP contaminated water/cleaner back thru the barrel, does anyone see a problem with this? Replace with fresh cleaner once or twice before done? -no big deal if using only water, more so if using some kind of mix.

There's nothing carved in stone that the barrel must be exactly straight up,, you can lean the rifle over a bit and not hit the ceiling with the rod.

I use the same soapy water mix for several pumps,, I don't change to another soapy water mix as another step.
I just get it clean with the first soapy water then dump that and go to clear water for a pumping rinse.

The carbon and gunk in the dirty water is in suspension, that's what the soap does,, dirty water doesn't "add back" to the dirty barrel, the metal is clean and just needs rinsing.

At a `vous, I'll even clean 2-3 guns with the same soapy water, but rinse with a different clear for each gun

I dont do the pumping I plug the vent fill with hot water, soak pour out swab and repeat. Yes I have been known to whack the cealing.I have to clean out side for the sake of domestic peace.

Water works as good as anything just use a lot of it, its really cheap and water from a creek that is not full of silt works as good as anything. BP fouling sucks up water like a sponge and the elements that would cause corrosion will be easily washed away as a result. I never use dirty water for a second barrel unless its a pretty big bucket full, gallon or more. One barrel is not an issue but I pour clean water though and out the flush tube before I start wiping the barrel dry anyway even though the concentration will be very low unless too little water is used.
Soap is OK but requires the soap/detergent to be rinsed away. Never saw a nickels worth of difference in how it cleans.

If you are using substitute powders you are on your own. I can only recommend very warm water and a lot of it poured through and careful followups in days to come.
