Getting back to my first build and going through the net eying, all the photos I can I came across a toe plate box, similar to a cap box but Much smaller in the toe plate. That would be just the ticket I need as the wood I have is nicely figured but would like a spot to hold a cleaning jag. Is there one commercially available in German silver, or how would I go about constructing one. I'm not a brazer and can barely soldier anything. It does not need to be open for each shot but once or twice during the day. This is not a HC Build but just what I want in a rifle. http://www.blackpowder411.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/TT19-Fig.14.jpg

I'm not aware of anything as my wife often reminds me but there are pistol grip caps, usually for shotguns, with doors in them and there are rifle cartridge traps, usually 3 or more rounds, that you might be able to adapt.

Hey Swamp Rat, if you Google ( Hershel House Spears rifle ) you should find a pic. of a toe plate box he made. Looks prety handy. RW

Very true, plan to make it a long toe plate to move it close to center and will only need 7/16" hole. But still have not figured it out yet.

Dixie Gun Works used to sell a toe plate box. Came in brass, iron, and German silver. Don't see it on their current web site, but their site is hard to navigate thru.

I had an old double barrel shotgun with a cap box on the heel, about 2/3 of the way between the trigger guard and the toe. It was a fancy little german silver escutcheon with a steel door about 7/16 in in diameter. The hole into the stock was perhaps 3/4 inch deep. Certainly would have held 30 or 40 no. 11 caps.

If you're really worried about strength you could drill it somewhat over sized, and line it with metal tubing epoxied in place. You probably don't need strength of steel. Brass would probably work. Color the tubing appropriately on the inside. That would help the jag slip in and out more readily too.

Zimmerstuten, why don't you just pry that one off and send it to me. :haha: I'm not seeing anything online for them now.
That is a good Idea with the tubing there, keeping that in mind if it comes to it.
