Regarding the apprehension about that brass spacer, just letting you know that I built that same CVA Kentucky Long Rifle in .45 cal. about 1975. I’ve hunted deer and black bear with it all these 43 years. It’s never failed or come apart. The Rifle still shoots true. I can hit a playing card tacked to a fence post at 80 yards, using the original open sights. So, I guess you can leave it out, but, based on my experience, I wouldn’t worry about it.
