Traditions Hawkins woodsman

I am looking to trade in my traditions deer hunter and upgrade, I really like the size and style of the traditions Hawkins woodsman and it’s right at the price I can afford ( I can get 150 for my deer hunter, very good condition and well maintained) My main concern is the reliability of the lock mechanism and if it fires consistently and will be a gun that I shouldn’t have issues with. Open to suggestions on other Hawkins style flintlocks that are no more than 550 dollars, used is fine.

I have a lymans GPS flintlock i built from a kit for around that price range and have taken deer with. I think it is a good upgrade from a traditions .

I have shot the Lyman deerstalker before and I really dislike the lymans blade sights, IMO they block off too much of the target. Also not a fan of how much the Lyman Hawken style is even as a kit. I’m considering trying to find a used pedersoli Hawken flintlock somewhere as opposed to the traditions one, depends on if my gun shop can get ahold of one

Probably should have said that I am looking for a ready to shoot gun, I’m a fellow of very little patience for putting fiddly stuff together

Keep your eye on the section “guns for sale” on this forum. There are a lot of nice used flintlocks that are sold on here. On the other hand there are very few flint Custom “hawken” style flintlocks because they pretty much never existed so there aren’t many people who I’ve seen build them. Someone will probably bite my head off for that statement. You’ll see way more Flint Longrifles.

Well I ended up getting a new traditions Hawken, it needs a little tweaking done to the lock but it’s a beautiful gun

Glad you joined the rock-lock group. You should have a ball shooting it and It should be as dependable as a cap lock. Had fun as a kid finding rocks to clamp in my brothers rock-lock to make it work.

After 300 shots
2 flash in pans shooters error
1 delay once again shooters error

Do you have a sniper scope on that thing? 2” groups at 150 yards?

No just a very long string so he can stand 150 yards behind the gun which is 50 yards from the target

It’s way more fun than regular rifle, I had the traditions deer hunter before and it was not a great gun....

There's days I would wish for a 2" group at 50 yards.

With my new grafted skin over most of my right arm and both hands burnt, 2" at 25 yrds is acceptable.
