I have a feeling that we are going to be looking back at these muzzleloading forums one day and wishing for the good ole days. I've noticed that several retailers have stopped shipping muzzleloaders altogether and most others are out of stock on nearly everything. I hope that it's not a coming trend. We had better buy them while we can.

Question....if the caliber is .31, and you're trying to ram a .310 RB down the barrel...won't it load hard?

Ramming a ball down thru the barrel is NOT recommended.

The outside of the ball or bullet MUST be larger than the chambers in the cylinder in order to seal the mouth of the chamber after the ball or bullet is loaded.
If there are any gaps in that area, a chain fire will happen with multiple chambers firing at once.

The bore in the barrel is smaller than the chamber diameters and often, the grooves diameter is smaller too. Forcing the ball thru the barrel will therefore make the outside of the ball, smaller than the chamber diameter. As I said, this can lead to chain firing of the gun when the first round is shot.

The right size ball or bullet to use in a .31 caliber revolver is .320 diameter. Never load a .310 diameter ball into a .310 caliber cap and ball pistol.

I remember when I bought a Colt 1849 pocket pistol for $50 dollars, and when I told my friend he said he had one I could have bought for $25! This was 1962, bought a Remington over and under derringer for $32.50 at the hardware/gunshop, those were the good old days!

I was referring to the .31 caliber Vest Pocket Derringer listed here.......it comes with .310 RBs.
