Please, let us know, have you tried anything yet? Have you resolved the issue? We might attack eachother, but, I think, most of us want to see you resolve your problem successfully and safely.

No I haven't, I don't have the grease nipple required and as I work 40 mins out of town and leave before shops open and arrive home after they close I can't do anything until the weekend.

I've spoken to the pedersoli distributor and he has referred me on to a smith that will remove it if I can't. Worst case scenario if the bore is gouged by the patch worm I might have it bored out to a .58. Obviously that's an expensive exercise (at least in this part of the world) so I hope it doesn't come to that.

The real kicker is that I was trying the 120gr load as I'd spoken to someone with the same gun, patch and ball combo that was getting better groups than I was with my current load. I was planning on heading out the following morning for a hunt but didn't have the gun obviously. And as fate would have it ended up 70 yards from a deer! Because I didn't have the gun I invited a mate who's never shot a deer and he managed to take it with his 308 so the day was not lost. But sure would have been nice to get my first deer with it!

Perhaps you should read the thread, I did reply to you are 11:25pm to say it had powder behind it. Then at 11:48pm edited my post to include it.

If you read the entire thread as you've suggested you'll also see that I have stated in no uncertain terms that enough is bloody well enough. If you're not contributing to the thread just stop commenting on it. I don't care about the arguments.
Buy a ramrod.

There are 2 types of muzzle loader shooters;

1.). Those that have dry-balled / had a stuck ball.
2.). Those who will.

Speaking from the school and perspective of those that "just did", I well understand the angst and consternation of the situation. An "uh- oh" moment. Especially the FIRST time. The first time is not like the 10th or 50th (yeah--that's me) time. Each time you feel bad and foolish, maybe more so than the last time, but not as bad as it's gonna be the NEXT time--which will surely happen. But the "first anything" is special--good or bad.

Good Rabbit; Please understand that the suggestions offered here are done so in the general spirit of wanting to be helpful, but, the gentle joshing you're getting here is also genuinely offered in the spirit of a "welcome to the club!" perspective too. We've ALL done it, and been where you are.

Please take it in the manner in which it is (or should more properly be) intended. Although some folks are somewhat impolitic in their posts, it's really more of a case of "boys being boys". It comes with the chromosome.

I put a dent in an aluminum door (across the shop) blowing a jag out of my GPR barrel with shop air hose!

mine shot through my Wife’s nice , big flower pot…🥴

GRP , do you have access too an air compressor? Neighbor own one maybe?

With one of the small pancake type compressors.. It blew the patched .36 jag & broken ram rod attachment through the Wife’s flower pot and into the ground..
No powder or ball in mine however.

Compressed air is used at Friendship and other events too remove dry balls… it works.. grease will too. But I’ve never needed it. Maybe I’m one of the lucky ones…🥴

Is the patch puller wedged against the barrel? Or did it come out prior too the ball puller getting stuck?

Worst case scenario if the bore is gouged by the patch worm I might have it bored out to a .58.

I have been worried about the muzzle and the barrel on all of these dangerous and troublesome thoughts on removal.
I honestly think the grease gun will go slow and not hurt the barrel. But if you are worried you could get a short piece of copper tubing. That is close to .50 OD. Slip it down the barrel to the ball. Then pump the grease. You will need a long zerk.

I can just see you bouncing like your on a pogo stick up and down on a steel bar shoved into the barrel all the while the crown of the muzzle is oblong and wallered out. No need for accurate rifles so pogo at it.
Out of respect for you Ron I will pardon your moment of lack of foresight. You seem to be under some kind of perverted view of the kind of energy required to shift the ball. No need to replicate a pogo stick at all my friend.
I sad you have taken it personally.
Also I was not arrogant enough with my suggestion so as to not grant a user of my suggestion the common sense move to protect the bore. I also hinted at a rod being near to bore size. Brass would be best.

That is a great way to ruin a barrel , without proper (expensive tooling)
How so? And what expensive, proper tooling do you speak of? I was going to suggest pulling the breechplug, pouring out the dry (ungreased powder) and driving the ball out the front. I've done it with no harm to my rifle.
I don't know if the pederasoli can even be unbreached by the common man. Some production guns are breeched so tight it's hard to break them free.
First thing I do when starting to inlet a new barrel is remove the breechplug. It is a simple process. I use a vice with tapered jaws to fit the swamped barrel and an adjustable wrench with the jaw teeth ground off then wrapped with duct tape.

Wow…192 replies!! Hey GoodRabbit, did you get it out yet? I can’t offer any suggestions beside the ones already mentioned. Just wondering if you solved the problem? If not, I hope you get it out soon with minimal problems to the barrel. Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

I read the op and down through several posts that ASSUMED quite foolishly facts that were not the case, such as assuming the gun was dry balled. Which according to your response is an wrong and dangerous assumption made by you and others.
I did not make ANY recommendations about how to remove the ball nor did I make ANY assumptions about the situation. I merely pointed out that your attack & criticism of TreeMan was unfair & based on your misconception of the order in which details were revealed. I ask again that you & Brokennock to please read Post #2 & explain why I am being attacked for things I NEVER said & why you both are putting words in my mouth. Only reason I can think of is you are both illiterate. Bye!

Maybe it's time under Firearms for a section called "dry balled" and "stuck ball" and that's all that can be posted there.

There is enough discussion and many posts to warrant it's own section. It would make it easier for folks to read there and find answers and help.

This discussion has gone 10 pages and 195 posts!

Some should kill this thread, they shoot horses don't they?

Flintlock or caplock.
If caplock use a grease gun and force it out with grease. There is a detailed post including a video posted here.

Compressed air would be my other method of choice.
Forcing high pressure air through small constrictions (patent breach) can heat it up. i would go with the grease gun if practical

Reactions: smo
If anyone ever wonders why muzzleloading isn't more popular you need only look at threads on this forum.

A new guy joins up whose interested in getting into the sport and has bought a low cost gun and he's made to feel like he and the gun are worthless and may as well not even try using it. Not everyone can afford or is interested in spending thousands on custom PC guns, but that doesn't seem to be enough for some. That is nothing short of pretentiousness.

I'm glad I bought my first black powder gun before I joined any forums dedicated to the sport. If I'd have seen all the derogatory comments about the rifle I bought I might have been deterred from buying it, and then if I thought I needed to spend thousands of dollars to get started maybe the whole idea would have been scrapped.

Lucky for me I already had bought the gun and soon found out I really liked it regardless of what some others thought about it.

Read the entire thread before commenting.

I've been a member of various online forums for more than 20 years and it still amazes me how many people will post things that make no sense within the context of the thread simply because they have not read many if any of the previous posts.

I try not to be that guy so I read the entire thread or refrain from commenting. And yes I've read this entire thread.

Dang, some folks here need to get their meter checked. Obviously melting the ball out with 120 grains of powder in it is a bad idea. The better solution is to pull the nipple and continue to trickle powder in until the ball is fully seated against it.
