Hie yourself on down to the hardware store and pick up a plumber's ladle for a few bucks. Mine easily holds close to 5# when full, but I stop at around 3-4# for slops. Kinda handy when pouring a bunch of ingots.

Better yet with that big old burner roaring in your face, it has a handle lots longer than typical for bullet casting. I don't worry too much about scorched knuckles cuzz I wear heavy gloves, but I'm kinda particular about my beard and eyebrows. :rotf:
 
When I get a big load of scrap lead (rare these days :( ) I first melt it down over an old Brinkman burner in a small cast iron pot (about 1 gal.) and skim clean when all is melted. I then use a ladle, about 5# size, and pour into ingots from that. As said, casting from the big pot is not a practical approach.
 
I use a 10" steel wok on the turkey fryer - my ladle is a bottom pour from Rotometals that holds 2 or 3 pounds of melt. No issues with burnt knuckles or any other problems. You do know that once the lead is melted you can lower the heat? :grin: :wink: :v

Hadn't though of a wok, but that rounded bottom likely would help. My dutch oven has a broad flat bottom which sure directs the heat out toward the beard and eyebrows.

Not really -- it is easy to clean off the slag and to get the ladle in and out. This system is just to clean dirty lead and make small ingots for the electric casting pot for me it works very well and FAST.
