Legality:
8 gauge guns are legal in some states for Turkey. Check with your state's Department of Natural Resources.

A year or so ago I went looking for the minimum requirements for muzzleloading smoothbores vis-a-vis turkeys in a bunch of different states that I thought that I might one day get to hunt in.

Like I posted above, some states were very clear & concise about what was legal for hunting turkey.

Others were very clear about centerfire shotguns, but vague as can be on what was legal for muzzleloading, kinda leaving you to judge for yourself whether the regs for centerfire applied to muzzleloaders.

Other states didn't even mention muzzleloaders when it came to turkey hunting, just leaving the hunter in limbo.

And, finally, the last couple of states placed no restrictions on what bore diameter could be used when shooting a muzzleloader during turkey hunting season.

Some allowed muzzleloading rifles to be used, as well as smoothbores.

Not legal in Nebraska or I bet I'd learn to shoot left handed.

The new Nebraska Game and Parks Turkey Guide booklet only restricts shot size, not bore size! Just got it yesterday!!
I’ll attach a pic of pg 9.

Appreciate the correction FiremanBrad. This must be a recent change. I have sat out the turkey season for the past 2 years due to my wifes health so it has been awhile since I have read the rules.
I usually hunt the spring season only. May put a tag in my pocket if the birds are using our place during the archery deer season.
Thanks for keeping me straight.
