i got a pretty good sized snapper shell last year im lookin for somethin to do with it anyone got any ideas

Turtle shell rattles are pretty neat but it sounds like the snapper that you got may be on the large side for that. Try googling "turtle shell bag". Some great ideas out there and if you make one, most folks probably have never seen one and will want yours!

I've seen where some folks have smoothed out the inside of the shell and then built a bench of sorts with a cut out the shell could set down into. that way they had a very primative sink to wash up in, or use to have handy water to shave with come morning etc. Usually they had good sized shells but I guess you could use a medium size shell too. I have a larger snapper top shell that I drilled small holes on the bottom edge and hang my Rendezvous and shoot medals from leather thongs and hung it on the wall of my MAN CAVE!

Used to hang it on a pole in front of my Tipi and tent years ago.

This isn't a Snapper shell, but a box turtle that I found after a mink got done with it. I made it in the early 70s for my flint and steel.

Now if I can get this posting right?

Will some one help me thru this? I have them on photo bucket, now what?

Sign in at photobucket.

Hover over the pic you want to upload and check the little box under it.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "choose action"

Click on "generate link"

Look down for IMG for bulliten boards and forums.

go to the "full size" box

Left click on the IMG code listed in that box. It will say "copied"

Come to this forum and go to your response and right click and paste in the IMG code. It will just show up in your response as a bunch of code until you hit "add post" and then the pic will show up.

You can also upload several pics at once by checking the little boxes under all of the pics you want instead of just doing it one at at time.

I think that's all the steps. Remember, if you delete that pic off of your photobucket page it will also delete here in the thread.

Her I go!!!

I don't know about your state but in mine it's highly illegal to do anything with turtles or the shells, I am talking about the tortoise kind. Some snapping turtles are ok some protected. So you might want to check with your state conservation commission, just to be safe, best wishes, ray I remember the girl that gave Clinton the Eagle feather she found, and got the $10,000 dollar fine.

I wasn't suggesting using tortoise shells of course. I should have thought to add a similar comment myself. You are absolutely right, person should check first. The same may apply to nautilus shells. This is a museum piece from Switzerland probably somewhere in the 1600's range idk. Mottled black genetic turkeys make a fine bald eagle substitute. Alot of the old flytying patterns I look at call for birds no longer in existence or extremely rare. Suitable substitutes can be found. Sorry for not thinking about this before posting.

no tortouis in ohio but we do catchand cook turtles alot and sometimes we sell the shells alot of people who say they would never hurt a turtle love to have a nice big turtle shell hangin on ther wall
